You can win

Every so often, I get discouraged. I look at my lack of growth in certain areas and I feel let down. This sense of shame follows me and it takes some time to identity.

Last night was one of those instances. I felt burnt out and at the end of my rope. But when I woke up this morning, thankfully, I realized, I’m not burnt out. My priorities are just out of order.

I teach in my Purpose Train seminars that our value CANNOT be tied to a role or function. This is especially true when we serve in a business or organization.

In life, disappointments happen. Investments succeed… then fail. The question is how do we navigate these crises and retain our value?

The answer is to tie our worth to something greater like our relationship with the Lord.

Your Homework for This Week

If you’re feeling exhausted or hopeless, consider where your priority lies. Is it on work, your spouse, or your children?

Each of these things are important, but nothing should take the place of your connection with God.

If you sense that your focus is off, take a step back and ask God how to implement more time for Him. Maybe this looks like adding a prayer and Scripture time to the start of each day?

Whatever strategy the Lord reveals, make sure to activate it so you can demonstrate that He is the source of your focus.

You can succeed

Last week, I met with an ambitious entrepreneur who runs a successful restaurant chain in California.

He was discouraged because, even though his first few locations had done well, his newest venture was struggling.

“I’m working fourteen-hour days and making the same income I could earn serving someone else. What’s the point of even running my own business?”

I was struck by this comment because it echoed a similar concern from another client. This person, who had come to me to tackle debt, was discouraged because they couldn’t afford a home.

“Money is so tight that any wiggle room I get is immediately swallowed up by interest charges.”

I was surprised that both a millionaire entrepreneur and a traditional employee were facing the same issue. Both desired to build a strong foundation, yet found themselves drowning in liabilities.

Your Homework for This Week

Take a step back and remember: you are not alone. Millions of people are facing the same challenges you are. Let that truth bring comfort. You don’t have to carry your burdens by yourself.

If you need encouragement, join our live session next Wednesday at 3:30 PM (CA time). Bring questions! I’ll see you then.

Urgency vs. Importance

We make hundreds of decisions every day. Some are big. Some small. With each choice, we have the option to partner with: Urgency (fear) Importance (peace). One is better than […]

[Repost] Purpose Train

Let’s talk briefly about my coaching tool, the Purpose Train. As a powerful identity exercise, it helps individuals, families, and business owners make better decisions.

In my Prosperous Home manual, I depict the Purpose Train like this:

  • The “P” stands for Purpose

  • The “V” stands for Vision

  • The “S” stands for Strategy

  • The “T” stands for Tactics

Each component answers a key question:

  • Purpose – “Why was I born?”

  • Vision – “What do I see?”

  • Strategy – “How do I get there?”

  • Tactics – “Shall I decide yes or no?”

I created this visual because, like trains, our lives are better pulled from the front than pushed from behind.

Most people live from the tactical level, meaning they operate on day-to-day decisions like:

  • Which career should I pursue?

  • Should I fix my old car or get a new one?

  • Should I send my children to this public or private school?

These questions are important and they must be answered, but treating them as the end-all to your peace leads to exhaustion and burnout.

Instead, it’s much better to live from the front, with Purpose and eternity in mind.

Purpose Makes Better Decisions

One of my clients benefited from this exercise when they discovered their Purpose was a “tower of strength.” It helped them navigate a difficult season of credit card debt.

The question was: “Do I pay off debt or build an emergency fund?”

My client’s Purpose Train simplified this tension. Their Purpose, a “tower of strength,” and their Vision, “forever shattering the debt cycle,” confirmed the need for an e-fund.

Can you see why?

Paying off debt was important, but for my client, savings was key to breaking the debt cycle.

Conclusion

What’s great about the Purpose Train is it can be adjusted as you navigate life’s seasons. A twenty-year-old’s Purpose, Vision, Strategy, and Tactics, for instance, will look different from those of someone raising a family.

Couples can even do joint Purpose Trains for their marriage. Business owners can use this method for their organizations.

We’ll talk more about the Purpose Train in the coming weeks. For now, get alone with God and ask Him these two questions:

  • Who am I?

  • Why was I put on this earth?

Thus will begin your journey.

Who and why?

In Prosperous Home, I teach that every person must answer these two questions: Who are you? Why were you put on this earth? Knowing these answers will help you make […]
